They take a long time to get to know each other, Drake making many mistakes that could have been fatal for their relationship, Kai being kidnapped or transformed by the evil being within her...Syn. Syn is then gone, but comes back full force to despose of Kai.

Nathan leaned up against the counter in the ER, "Any day now, Drake..." he said softly. Every once and a while, Nathan checked Drake's vitals, and they were still the same, almost as if he didn't want to wake up.
Drake was out, but his mind continued to replay the moment when Kai died. It killed him every time it replayed, but he couldn't stop it now. He was too late for that. It happened and there was nothing he could have done, whether he got there to help her on time or not. He began to become aware of his surroundings, but he thought it best to stay as far away from the reality that he could, so he wouldn't have to face a life without Kai.
Nathan sighed and walked into the recovery room where Asuka was, "Asuka...? You awake?" he called to her softly. He wasn't sure which bed Laurie had set her on, so he waited for her voice to give him a direction.
"But nothing can erase that past...I've tried forgetting but it has scarred me for the rest of my life...I can't forget...I've been branded by it..." -Laurie

Asuka could hear Nathan's soft voice in her half dazed state. "Ya?" She asked rubbing her eyes a little, trying not to move much since her sides still hurt.

Now that she spoke, he walked over toward her bed and sat at the foot of it, "How are you feeling?" he asked, "I can give you medicine if you hurt..." He didn't want Asuka to be in pain, but receiving medicine was her decision.
Drake could hear the quiet buzzing of the room. He hated that noise, so he shut it out until everything around him was silent again as it had been when he was completely out. His body felt limp and he could move, or if he did, he would never know because he felt numb as well. "I'm so sorry, Kai..." he thought sadly, "This whole thing was my fault...I wasn't around to protect you...it was all my fault..."

Asuka shook her head. "I don't want any medicine..." She said softly. "I'm healing fine...it's just a little tender still..." She said stretching a little bit, then she flinched.

Nathan felt the bed move as she stretched, then he chuckled, "You can't sit still to save you life, Asuka...but this is important..."
Drake was fully awake now, but he hadn't moved at all, because he couldn't move. He opened his eyes a little bit, then closed them again. "This is useless..." he thought, "There is nothing for me here now...I wish Syn would have just killed me..."

Nathan looked off into a random part of the room, "Well it seems like nothing has changed...but I wonder..." he said trailing off. "Last time when he was like this he pulled through with ease...but I think that he's not waking up because he doesn't want to wake up..." he said softly, "Just my suspicion." He shrugged and sighed.
Drake started to breath again, but it was very shallow.

Asuka frowned and looked over at the doors. "Poor Drake..." She said softly. "I don't know what I would do if something like that happened to me..." She said softly and looked down at her hands.
